I’ve just discovered Oreos are vegan in Malaysia.
Not good.

Yesterday afternoon I decided I’d throw sewing caution to the wind and make myself a top. Without a pattern. Several hours later I was sitting on the couch with my unpicker vowing to never throw sewing caution to the wind again.
As I was mumbling and muttering about my own stupidity in thinking I could sew [...]

I have finished the Amy Butler oversized laundry bag!
(Sans canvas reinforcing and interfacing cause I couldn’t be bothered. What’s that saying about starting with good habits….?)
It’s not in the lovliest of fabrics and the blue and green alternating panels are merely because I didn’t have enough of the green fabric (all very cheap, local cotton) [...]

Or mooncakes as they are more commonly known.
These little Chinese cakes seem to be in season here in Malaysia at the moment and are traditionally eaten to celebrate the mid-Autumn festival. I’m not sure if it even is ‘mid-Autumn’ here in Malaysia as it tends to feel like summer constantly with the high temperatures [...]

Indulging my inner child and making some little critters out of felt scraps and buttons:
Also a good way to practise my not-so-brilliant hand sewing skills!
[ps - anyone know where I can buy stuffing in KL? I'm having to use scraps of yarn and fabric and am running out fast...]

My first sewn garment!
The excitement is almost too much to bear. Excuse the dishevelled creases, but I couldn’t be bothered ironing before taking the photo and as I’ve found out, this cotton wrinkles like mad. Still, I am fairly pleased that it turned out so well. I even managed to insert a zip, although [...]

This was taken at about 5pm on Friday, from the middle of a street I was attempting to cross at a busy intersection:
See the yellow line to the left? That designates a square in the center of the intersection that is supposed to be left free so traffic coming in the other direction can get [...]

Coconut rice pudding:
My make-it-up-as-you-go strategy for using up left over rice. This is made with brown rice, which I prefer cause it gives a nice chewy texture and holds its shape, but white is good too. Also has coconut milk, sugar and cinnamon (in whatever quantities you feel appropriate). Yum.
These brownies are devine. And totally [...]

I discovered there are in fact two main varieties of dragonfruit this morning when I cut into one for breakfast – the pinkish red one shown in an earlier post and this one:
Turns out it is slightly less sweet and has a particular sort of taste about it – tangy yet bland and kind of [...]
